The NDIS Participant Pathway

Below is a simple step-by-step guide to help you understand how the NDIS works and what to expect.

Step 1: Contact the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA)

The first step is to contact the NDIA to check if you or your child are eligible for the NDIS.

If you’re already receiving government disability support, the NDIA may contact you directly to assist with transitioning to the NDIS.

Step 2: Meet Your NDIS Partner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC)

Once eligibility is confirmed, you’ll meet with an NDIS Planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC).
They will take time to understand your situation, strengths, challenges, and long term goals.

This meeting helps ensure your supports are tailored to your individual needs.

Step 3: Identify Your Needs and Goals

Step 4: Develop and Finalise Your NDIS Plan

Once approved by the NDIA, you’ll receive your official NDIS plan with allocated funding.

Step 5: Choose Your Preferred NDIS Provider

You can now select providers to deliver your supports. When choosing an NDIS provider, consider:
